MLF headed back to Alpena

Major League Fishing will return for an unprecedented third time to Alpena, Mich., to continue the seventh season of filming as 27 anglers compete in the Wiley X Summit Cup from August 14-19, 2017.

Anglers will compete across area lakes in 6 days of competition, all seeking to make it to the final day’s championship round. The show captures the anglers’ efforts as they seek to catch as many fish as possible in 7 1/2 hours of fishing and weigh all “scoreable bass” before immediately releasing the fish back into the water.

The events filmed in Michigan will begin airing in February 2017 on Outdoor Channel.

This is MLF's third time in its 5-year history to fish in Michigan – Alpena became the first community ever revisited by MLF last year when Select anglers fished these waters in the 2017 Summit Select. The 2014 Summit Cup was also filmed in Alpena, with Michigan native Kevin VanDam winning the championship round with 82 pounds, 7 ounces of bass.

In addition to VanDam, anglers competing in Michigan are Tim Horton, Boyd Duckett, Aaron Martens, Alton Jones, Andy Montgomery, Bobby Lane, Brent Chapman, Brent Ehrler, Dean Rojas, Edwin Evers, Gary Klein, Greg Hackney, Ish Monroe, Jeff Kriet, Kelly Jordon, Mark Davis, Mike Iaconelli, Mike McClelland, Shaw Grigsby, Skeet Reese, Takahiro Omori and Tommy Biffle. There are also two MLF Select anglers fishing who cannot be named so as not to reveal the results of previous competitions that have not yet aired on television.

MLF will host a meet-and-greet with anglers, feature reporter Aly Akers and jersey and swag giveaways at The Fresh Palate from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday (Aug. 15) All are invited.
