Combs adds Shimano rods to arsenal

A long-time endorser of Shimano fishing reels, the lockers in Elite Series pro Keith Combs’ Ranger bass boat are now loaded with Shimano Zodias and new Expride rods.

"Combs has been a rock solid performer on the professional bass scene for years," said Shimano marketing manager Kurt Mazurek. "With an Elite series victory, three Toyota Texas Bass Classic titles, and the largest single day weight record in FLW history with over 41-pounds on Falcon Lake, he’s regarded as an absolute force on Texas waters, but his record shows he’s always a genuine threat to win anywhere bass swim.

"Plus, his unshakeable, competitive confidence on the water and easy-going, approachable personality off the water, makes him a fan favorite and exactly the kind of guy we want representing Shimano. We can’t be more pleased that Keith is now putting his Shimano reels on Shimano rods.”

At the Bassmaster Classic next week at Lake Conroe, where Combs won the 2011 and 2013 Toyota Texas Bass Classics, he’ll be relying on an array of Curado 200HG reels matched to Zodias 172MH-G cranking rods for shallow and mid-depth cranking.

He said he also has confidence flipping with Shimano’s new Expride 171H rod with Shimano Metanium MGL and new Chronarch MGL reels.

“Over my 10 years as a full-time professional angler, being confident in your approach is just as important as using the right lures,” said Combs. “Having the opportunity to use Shimano reels and rods – knowing I’m fishing with the finest tackle on the market – just adds to my confidence. I can’t wait to show the bass fishing market all the great new tackle Shimano is making.”

As part of the Classic Expo, Shimano will be introducing the Chronarch MGL baitcasting reel and expanded lineup of Expride bass rods.
