Card cashes in with LEER, Toyota bonuses

Wedding bells bring wedding bills, so the $2,500 in contingency bonuses Brandon Card earned for his 4th-place finish at the St. Lawrence River Elite Series should bring a smile to the face of new bride Kelly.

Card took home the LEER “Cover Cash” $500 bonus along with the 2nd-place Toyota Bonus Bucks contingency check worth $2,000. Card has a LEER truck cap on his 2012 Tundra that sported 92,531 miles on its odometer as he pulled away from his second straight Elite Series Top-8 finish.

“My LEER is awesome, it’s never leaked, and it pays me Cover Cash, too,” said Card, the 2012 Elite Series Rookie of the Year.

Within minutes of the weigh-in concluding, the 29-year-old was very aware that he had won a Toyota Bonus Bucks check as well.

“I pay close attention to which of the other pros are in contention to win the Bonus Bucks," Card admitted, "and I knew Edwin Evers would obviously get the 1st-place Bonus Bucks check, but because Alton Jones drives a Ford and (Greg) Hackney drives a Chevy, I knew the 2nd-place Bonus Bucks check would fall to me in 4th place.

“When I first started fishing the Elites, I had an old 4Runner that was an absolute workhorse, but it was too old to be eligible for Bonus Bucks, so I bought a newer model Tundra, and the Bonus Bucks pretty much paid all my truck payments that first year."

In order to be eligible for “Cover Cash” or “Bonus Bucks," you just have to be a registered participant in any of the dozens of tournaments sanctioned by both bonus programs and be the highest-placing participant.
