Browne blows it out at Champlain

Glenn Browne had electrical issues on his boat today and switched boats before making a cast, but still make it look easy at the Lake Champlain Northern Rayovac Series.

The Florida native and former FLW Tour and Elite Series angler caught 18-07 to finish with a 3-day total of 63-08, good enough for nearly a 10-pound win over runner-up Otis Darnell, who closed with 53-12.

“It feels really good and very vindicating to get the win this week,” said Browne, who pushed his career earnings to more than $900,000 in FLW competition. “My ultimate goal this season was to re-qualify for the FLW Tour and this will certainly help that cause.”

He won by making the long run south to Ticonderoga each day, but that trip was interrupted this morning when he struck a rogue wave that knocked the power out on his boat. He contacted the tournament director, who approved Browne's use of roommate Dave Lefebre's boat the rest of the day. After Browne returned to the take off to go through boat check, he continued his journey to Ticonderoga.

He caught most of his fish flipping a black and blue jig with a black and blue Zoom Salty Chunk, but he did catch a 5-pounder the first day on a frog.

Additional details of his strategy and pattern and those of Darnell and 3rd-place finisher Joe Lucarelli will be published in the coming days.

Lucarelli finished 3rd with 52-11 while day-1 leader David Chioppa took 4th with 52-10. Brock Mosley was 5th with 52-07.
