Work ongoing at '15 Classic launch site

Work has begun on transforming Green Pond Landing on the shores of Lake Hartwell into a first-class launch facility in advance of the 2015 Bassmaster Classic, according to a report in the The State (Columbia, S.C.) newspaper.

More than million pounds of concrete has already been poured and Anderson County officials are confident the $4.1 million development project will be completed well in advance of the Classic next February.

"Our anticipated completion date is Dec. 1, but our real goal is the Classic in 2015," county parks director Matt Schell told the newspaper.

When it's built out, there will be 168 parking spaces for trailers and 100 more for day visitors at the 34-acre site, land leased from the Corps of Engineers that lies between S.C. 24 and the Western Carolina Sailing Club on the east shore of Hartwell Lake.
