Bassmaster Elite Series rookie Brandon Lester is finding a lot of satisfaction as a do-it-yourself custom rod-builder.

ďIíve accumulated over a hundred fishing rods from both big and small rod companies over the years," said the 2013 Bassmaster Southern Opens Angler of the Year. "I own a flipping stick from one brand, a cranking rod from one company, and a jig rod from another rod company. You learn that not every company makes the perfect rod for each technique.

"Iím excited about Mud Hole Custom Tackle (his title sponsor for 2014)because theyíve taught me how to build my own rods to exact specifications and shown me how enjoyable it is.Ē

He handed out Mud Hole's tackle catalog and ďRod Building 101 DVDĒ to fans at the Bassmaster Classic Expo.

"Itís taken on a life of its own. Custom rod-building and tackle crafting has such a broad appeal because people of all ages and fishing abilities can enjoy it. Itís a great way to bring families together."

He laughed about his own winter activities at his home in Fayetteville, Tenn.

ďWith each passing Arctic system of ice and snowstorms that prevented me from practicing on the water, I spent valuable time crafting the rods. Itís fun! Iíve designed over a dozen Iíll be using this year on the tour and frankly, Iím proud of each one Iíve built."

Said Mud Hole president Tom McNamara: ďBrandon has a very engaging personality and he loves talking with other anglers Ė novices to pros Ė about the attributes and advantages of crafting their own rods. Itís just one of the reasons Mud Hole will be his primary sponsor on the Elite series. Weíre excited about the opportunity this partnership represents.Ē
