One angler completely dominated the final day of competition at the Major League Fishing Summit Cup in Alpena, Mich. The winner caught 17 smallmouths from Long Lake that combined to weigh 40-11, giving him a margin of victory that was just an ounce shy of 10 pounds over the remainder of the eight-angler field.
The 2nd-place competitor amassed 30-12 on 16 fish and the 3rd-place finisher caught 11 fish for 27-11.
All 94 fish caught on the final day were smallmouths. They were mostly pulled from offshore haunts (rocks or vegetation) with a variety of baits (topwaters, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, jigs and worms were popular offerings). The biggest specimen weighed 3-11.
The Summit Cup will air on Outdoor Channel in February.
