MLF: Big ones show up

The biggest fish caught to date at the Major League Fishing Summit Cup showed up on day 5 of the competition at Lake Winyah in Michigan. One angler caught a 6-05 and a 5-pounder in the second of two sudden-death rounds that determined the final four qualifiers for championship day.

The championship round will take place on Saturday featuring eight anglers. Summit Cup competition will air in February on Outdoor Channel.

The angler who caught the 6-05 needed only six fish to reach the 22-pound target weight for advancement. The other three qualifiers needed at least 10 keepers.

One of the non-qualifiers boated a 5-13, but caught only four other keepers and didn't reach the target weight. Another angler tallied 16 pounds by 8:15 a.m., but was shut out thereafter.

Seventy-two keepers were weighed on the day, 45 of them largemouths. A variety of cover, both near and away from the shore, was utilized, as were numerous baits (jigs, topwaters, frogs and worms were prevalent).
