Ike Foundation to host fund-raising tournament

The Ike Foundation and the Mid-Atlantic Youth Anglers & Outdoor Program announced plans this week for the inaugural Ike Celebrity Pro Am Bass Tournament, a fund-raising event open to the public and amateur anglers, on Saturday, Aug. 6 on the Camden waterfront.

The event centers around a bass fishing tournament on the Delaware River in the morning, a family fun zone from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. filled with games, food and fishing for the entire family, and an evening dinner and auction.

The tournament launches at 8 a.m. Amateur teams can have up to three members and special discounts are available for college and first responder entrants.

The public can take part in silent auctions, 50/50 trivia challenges, kids fishing instruction and carnival games, as well as enjoy music and food on the waterfront (next to the Camden Children’s Garden and just down from the Adventure Aquarium).

Weigh-in starts at 2pm, followed by the awarding of prizes to the top finishers along with the 50/50 and auction winners. Later, a dinner benefit offers an opportunity for the ticket-buying public to mingle with the amateur and pro anglers.

Pro anglers slated to compete include Kevin VanDam, Randall Tharp, Jacob Powrosnik, Justin Lucas, John Crews, Mike McCelland, Ish Monroe, Brandon Palaniuk, Fletcher Shyrock, John Murray, Matt and Jordan Lee, Josh Bertrand, Joe Sancho, Pete Gluszek and Mike Iaconelli.

Celebrities joining in the fishing tournament and on hand at the dinner to mingle with guests include: on-air fishing personalities Mark Zona and Dave Mercer, comedian Ed Bassmaster, Chicago Blackhawks forward and avid fisherman Bryan Bickell and UFC fighter Jim Miller.

Registration for the fishing competition, tickets for the dinner and the schedule of events is on The Ike Foundation website (www.TheIkeFoundation.org). Anglers and teams are encouraged to sign up before June 5 to be eligible to win a prize: a package of fishing tackle and two tickets to the FireFly Music Festival in Dover, De.. The prize pack is valued at over $750.

All proceeds benefit The Ike Foundation and the Mid-Atlantic Youth Anglers & Outdoor Program. Donations are appreciated and are tax deductible.
