Vermont’s Adams claims top honors at Champlain

Vermont angler Chris Adams collected a 4th-place finish at the Champlain Bass Series’ fall finale earlier this month and in the process secured the series’ 2015 Angler of the Year title.

Adams earned $1,250 for his tournament finish and $2,500 for the AOY title.

“It’s been an incredible year on an amazing lake,” said Adams, who lives in Rutland, Vt. “I grew up learning how to fish from my dad on Champlain, and hoped that one day I might be able to compete with the best anglers on the lake. I’ve had some great tournament days so far in my young fishing career, but given my love for Lake Champlain and the strength of the competition in this series, this one was by far the most special.”

Adams, 29, finished the 2015 Champlain Bass Series season with two wins, a 4th and a 9th, never landing outside of the Top 10. He closed the year with 99 points in the AOY standings, eight more than his next closest competitor.

“One of my main goals in tournament fishing year in and year out is to be consistent,” said Adams, who was the series’ runner-up in 2014. “I try to work hard to give myself a chance to do well in each event, knowing that some days things will go really well, while other days they might not be as smooth. There are so many uncontrollable factors in fishing, but if I prepare to the best of my ability, I’m usually able to find consistency, and that is what I strive for.”
