Longobardi withdraws from Elite Series

Elite Series rookie Stephen Longobardi notified B.A.S.S. this week that he will not compete in the final three tournaments this season, according to a story posted at Bassmaster.com.

The Connecticut angler has endured a tough rookie year through five events. He is in 114th place in the Angler of the Year standings and his best finish was an 89th at the Sacramento River.

Longobardi provided B.A.S.S. with the following statement:

"I took a risk and lived my dream of competing at the highest level in tournament bass fishing. I have to look at this as a business decision right now even though fishing will always be a passion of mine.

"I have nothing but respect for the anglers I competed against. They are some of the most down-to-earth and hard-working people on the planet.

"I would like to thank Candid Group, Foxborough MA Bass Pro Shops, Nitro Boats, 6th Sense Lure Company, McCoy Fishing Line, and Gamakatsu Hooks for all of their support. I would also like to thank B.A.S.S. and everyone in the organization.

"I don't know what the future holds for me. Regardless, I regret nothing. I have learned a lot from this experience, and it will be something that I will never forget."
