Smith: Ehrler’s Best Bets

Brent Ehrler was doing some scouting at the California Delta today in preparation for the Elite Series event there later this year, but he took a few minutes to give BassFan his Best Bets for this week’s FLW Tour stop at Smith Lake.

Ehrler won the 2013 Tour event at Smith by targeting spotted bass with a wacky-rigged Senko. That could be an effective technique again this week, along with several other methods.

Here are Ehrler’s picks to click at Smith:

1. Scott Canterbury
> Ehrler says: “The very first time we went (to Smith), he did well. It was his first year on Tour and nobody knew who he was. He’s proved to be a good fisherman and he knows the area well. Whether it’s largemouths or spots, he could be a player. He’s a great competitor and he’s going to win one of these sooner or later.”

2. Brandon Hunter
> Ehrler says: “Brandon used to be my practice partner so I know how good of a fisherman he is. This could be his coming out party.”

3. Andy Morgan
> Ehrler says: “He’s good, blah, blah, blah.”

4. Todd Auten
> Ehrler says: “He’s one of the best fishermen to have never won a tour-level tournament.”

Darkhorse: Blake Nick
> Ehrler says: “He’s a great fisherman and he understands the river system below Smith and how the spotted bass behave. The potential is there for him to do well.”
