Glenn Browne is scheduled to undergo his 10th, and hopefully final, round of chemotherapy on Monday as part of his treatment for colorectal cancer.
After that, the longtime pro is planning to compete in the final two Northern FLW Series tournaments at the Thousand Islands in New York and the Potomac River. He’s due to have one more minor surgery, but fully intends to return to the FLW Tour in 2018.
“Then hopefully all will be well,” Browne said Wednesday at ICAST.
He feels fortunate to have not suffered through the serious side effects many chemo patients endure. His hair is still intact and the worst he’s dealt with is some neuropathy in his fingers.
“It’s gone better than I could’ve hoped,” he added.
It sure hasn’t stopped his fishing. He’s been doing a lot of saltwater fishing and is heading out Saturday to chase red snapper.
“I’ve gotten talented at doing nothing,” he joked.
No-Info Rule Fallout
One area that’s already been impacted by the new expanded no-info rule put in place by B.A.S.S. last week for the Elite Series and Bassmaster Classic is that companies holding media events at venues on next year’s schedule may have to be shifted around this fall so as to not infringe on the rule or create a scenario where a competitor is put in a compromising position.
Writers conferences slated for the Mississippi River in La Crosse, Wis., and Kentucky Lake had been scheduled well in advance of B.A.S.S. announcing the expanded rule that prohibits competitors from soliciting or intentionally receiving information about a venue on the 2018 schedule as soon as the schedule was announced. Those are likely to be moved to different fisheries now in order to avoid the possibility of a pro attending either event being given information, either intentional or not.
Mustad honors VanDam
Kevin VanDam’s name is synonymous with a number of manufacturers in the fishing industry – Quantum, Bass Pro Shops and Nitro Boats, Strike King come to mind. You can throw Mustad in there, too, and on Wednesday, the hook maker honored VanDam for his 25-year association with the company.
As a brief highlight video of his career played in the background, VanDam was presented a nicely-done award by Magnus Gunnarsson, the vice president of Mustad Americas.
