Falcon Lake is currently about 34 feet below its conservation pool level, but there appears to be enough water in the south Texas reservoir for it to host a Bassmaster Elite Series event in a little more than 2 months.
Falcon, which last year was ranked No. 1 in Bassmaster Magazine’s Top 100 Bass Lakes countdown and was the site of a record-setting Elite Series tournament in 2008, is presently at less than a third of its capacity.
Rumors have been swirling that B.A.S.S. was possibly looking at alternate venues for the second stop on the 2013 Elite Series schedule – perhaps Lake Amistad or Sam Rayburn Reservoir – if Falcon is deemed unfishable. Falcon’s slot on the schedule (March 21-24) falls immediately after the season opener at the Sabine River in southeast Texas so any schedule modification would have to be within reasonable proximity to the Sabine.
However, a venue change is not in the works, according to a B.A.S.S. communication official who today provided BassFan with the following message that was recently sent via email to Elite Series competitors by tournament director Trip Weldon:
”Several of you have had questions regarding the water level on Falcon. Please see the two attached charts. Based on these charts, conversations with different anglers and B.A.S.S. staff who have been there in recent weeks, we are a go for Falcon and look forward to the expected great catches from the best bass anglers in the world. We will continue to keep a close eye on conditions and if anything changes, you will be notified ASAP.”

The water has been falling at Falcon at an alarming rate for the better part of 2 years now due to a lack of consistent rainfall.
