Card gets Floatback deal

Brandon Card, the 2012 Bassmaster Elite Series Rookie of the Year, has signed a sponsorship deal with South Africa-based Floatback Lures. The company produces "line-through" hardbaits – fishing line goes directly through the bait and is tied to the treble hooks, allowing the lure to slide up the line while in a fish's mouth and preventing the fish from leveraging the weight of the lure in order to throw it.

The lures are also designed to be easily retrieved after getting hung up, as they'll float to the surface after being disengaged from the hooks.

Floatback plans to release one new bait every few months, with the first being a deep-diving crankbait (the FB 10/25) that will be available shortly after the Bassmaster Classic.

"I'm honored to be working with an innovative company like Floatback and very excited to be the first angler in the U.S. to have my hands on the FB 10/25," Card said. "I think it will be a serious player in many of the events this year, including the Classic, where deep-cranking may excel. Deep-cranking is a double-edged sword – it's one of my favorite techniques, but there's nothing worse than having a big one jump and throw the bait. With the FB 10/25, I'll put those key fish in the boat."

Said Floatback CEO Anthony Stone: "We are very pleased to be working with Brandon and we hope that with our help, he will continue to build on what he did in his incredible breakout season last year."
