Duckett will expand into reels

Alabama Bassmaster Elite Series pro Boyd Duckett told BassFan today that his company, Duckett Fishing, will expand into the reel market. It's produced white Micro-Magic rods exclusively since it was founded in 2009.

"We'll probably launch at ICAST in 2014," he said. "We're in the process of getting all of the sub-components farmed out. That's the hardest thing to do with reels, but I'm dead on it now.

"We should have the prototypes built by next fall. It's going to be a high-end reel with some creative things. One of the reasons I haven't done this before was because of my (previous) association with Pure Fishing – I didn't want to be competing with the Revo."

He said the company has hired a reel designer with vast experience in the industry.

"We're going to start with baitcasting, but I fully intend to be in the spinning-reel game, too."
