Report: Waddington looks to share cost of Elite Series

Officials in Waddington, N.Y., are looking to share the costs of bringing the Bassmaster Elite Series to the small village again this summer with neighboring municipalities.

According to a report in the Watertown (N.Y.) Daily Times, Waddington Mayer Janet Otto-Cassada lobbied Ogdensburg city officials Monday for a monetary contribution to offset the $122,000 it will cost to host the Elite Series in August. It will be the Elite Series' fourth visit to the small town along the St. Lawrence River since 2013.

“What we’re doing is coming to each and every one of the towns in the river district because we need assistance,” Otto-Cassada said.

Otto-Cassada said she and other organizers have reached out to private business for donations and will be receiving help from a state grant through Empire State Development and from the St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency.

“We are hoping that the city of Ogdensburg can find it somewhere in their budget or in their economic development funds to be able to assist us in any amount that this board deems reasonable to do," she added. "We need the assistance. We cannot continue to do these tournaments without everyone helping us.”
