New launch site for Ches. Bay Elite Series

The Upper Chesapeake Bay Elite Series, scheduled July 26-29, will launch from Flying Point Park in Edgewood, Md., according to an event information sheet posted on Bassmaster.com.

The launch site had to be changed after the Havre de Grace City Council did not approve an application in January for B.A.S.S. to utilize the Havre de Grace City Yacht Basin as its launch hub and site of weigh-ins for days 1 and 2 of competition.

Among the reasons cited in a Baltimore Sun report about the application not being approved was the inconvenience the tournament would cause marina slip holders and how B.A.S.S. is planning to hold the day 3 and 4 weigh-ins at a baseball stadium in another city.

Flying Point Park is located in the Bush River, southwest of Havre de Grace, which is located at the mouth of the Susquehanna River.

Havre de Grace is still listed as the host community for the tournament, but Flying Point Park is roughly a 30-minute drive from Havre de Grace and Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, where the weigh-ins on days 3 and 4 will be held, is also a 30-minute trip from Edgewood.
