Report: Platinum shopping Ranger

News organization Reuters reported Monday that Platinum Equity is seeking a buyer for Ranger Boats.

Reuters cited three sources in its report, which indicated a second round of bidding is set for next month, despite assertions that there could be some problems with the process.

Platinum Equity acquired Ranger, and several other boat brands, as part of its acquisition of bankrupt Genmar Holdings in 2010. Platinum bought nearly all of Genmar's assets for $70 million.

There was no mention of whether Triton or Stratos would be part of any sale involving Ranger. Both Triton and Stratos are also Platinum Equity properties and are made in Flippin, Ark., home of Ranger since 1968.

Earlier this year, Platinum liquidated its Rec Boat Holdings (Four Winns, Glastron, Wellcraft and Scarab) to the Bénéteau Group, but maintained control of Fishing Boat Holdings, which includes Ranger, Stratos and Triton.
