At 6-foot-9, David Kilgore appears better suited for basketball than bass fishing. His victory at the Smith Lake Bassmaster Southern Open was an impressive slam dunk.

Kilgore led the tournament from start to finish. His 3-day tally of 54-11 outdistanced Todd Auten by 6 pounds and earned him his second straight trip to the Bassmaster Classic.

A Strike King Tour Grade Titanium umbrella rig dressed with Strike King KVD Perfect Plastic Swim'n Caffeine Shads accounted for most of Kilgore’s fish. He was targeting docks that were the farthest from the main lake in short pockets – the bigger females were staging there prior to moving shallow.
