Yesterday Todd DuFour and Alden Bourgeois, both of Marrero, La., weighed two redfish for 16-04 to lead day 1 of the Wal-Mart FLW Redfish Series western division event out of Cocodrie, La.

But they don't lead by much. Fellow Louisianans Billy Nicholas and Andy Mnichowski are only 2 ounces behind with 16-02. And only 5 ounces behind them are Tadd VanDemark and Kevin Shaw, who blew away lat month's FLW Redfish Series west event out of Port Aransas, Texas.



Not until 8th place do the weights go below 15-08, so it's pretty tight up top.

DuFour-Bourgeois Ran 2 Hours

DuFour and Bourgeois ran more than 2 hours towards Lafitte, and initially it looked like a bad decision. "Things started out kind of slow (yesterday) morning," DuFour said, "but ended with a bang (that) afternoon. We caught our two fish we weighed in the last 2 hours of fishing time before we had to make the long run back.

"We were running and gunning, hitting a number of spots throughout the day. We were trying to catch one good solid keeper and search for a big kicker fish the rest of the afternoon."

They were mainly throwing spinnerbaits to reds in shallow water hanging around big schools of bait. "We had a really good day," DuFour said. They caught about 15 fish and didn't lose any.

Today's gameplan was the same, and they thought they could be more efficient: "During our running and gunning, we were able to eliminate some water and key in on what the fish were relating to," he said.
