John Murray – Practice
Tuesday, February 7, 2006

I guess my practice was like everybody else's. Last week was pretty good, but it's gotten slower and slower every day since then. I never did get on those huge bags some guys are catching, but I was catching a lot of fish last week and earlier this week.

I'm fishing just bank-related stuff. I haven't had a bite in over 10 feet of water. It's nice, clear water, but I can't get anything deep. Obviously, there's some dirty water too. I'm keying on mixed areas – standard stuff.

There's no grass here – nothing, not a blade. That's the big difference since the last time we were here.

I'm looking to catch 13 or 14 pounds – I'd be really excited about that. That was my best practice day, so if I could catch a 4- or 5-pounder and just some keepers, I'd be real tickled.

They say you catch a 1 1/2-pounder here, then a 10 or 12 on the next cast. But I've not had a fish over 4 pounds. Maybe I'm missing something. Obviously, I'd like to get a big bite, but I'm not one of those guys who's on them.
