Brent Chapman – Practice Recap
Wednesday, August 22, 2012
I think I’m being tested as far as my wits go. I can honestly say I think I had one bass bite today. It was definitely not the practice I was hoping for, but I have a few areas that I’ve always fished. I had some bites out of those areas on Monday and I have what I found a month ago so I’m just going to go to the areas where I know there’s fish and just hunker down and be real thorough.
I think everybody’s so used to coming up here and catching 20 to 50 fish a day and I don’t think it’s going to be like that. I’ve got a handful of areas and two or three different techniques that should catch some fish so I’m just going to keep my fingers crossed.

It feels good to be back out fishing. From a practice standpoint, I came here before the cutoff and had a lot of high hopes and expectations about how the fishing was going to be and it sure wasn’t that way today.
It seems like it’s gotten a lot tougher, at least for me, but that’s just 1 day. I did a little bit of everything. I tried to maximize my day and figure out what I want to do with the rest of my time. I did a lot of running around, but didn’t really see anything that got me overly excited so far.
We had a little cool front today and I wonder if that had the fish off a little bit. That’s one thing that’s kind of neat about this lake – for as small as it is, it fishes so big and it changes so much. I am floored at how different it is just from a month ago.
I spent 4 days here before the cutoff and now I’m glad I did, especially how today went. Had I not done that, I’d really be freaking out.
I know from my past experience just how critical it is to catch a good fish or two – a 4-pounder. That’s what haunted me here the last time. I was around guys who did really well and in 2 days, I caught probably 40 to 50 keepers and never had a 3-pounder. Hopefully, this one will be a little different.
