John Murray – Day 1

> Day 1: 5, 13-06
> Day 2: 5, 12-15
> Total = 10, 26-05 (58th)

I did the same thing today as yesterday. I caught a lot of fish, and caught an early limit flipping a Yamamoto tube and Sweet Beaver on an 8-foot Powell flipping stick and Abu Garcia Revo reel.

That was to get going – to get a 12-pound limit. Then I went out deeper. My outside fish were in 8 to 10 feet, and I just never caught any big fish. I caught some keepers out there, but never had a big bite. I was throwing a 1/2-ounce football jig with a Yamamoto trailer.

I'm pretty happy, actually. I didn't lose any fish. I fished clean. I just never got on the bigger fish this year.

John Murray – Practice

The fishing's been real good this year. Yesterday I caught some big ones and had probably 17 pounds. The other two days I caught smaller fish and 10- or 11-pound limits.

It's changed a lot just this week though. The water's clearing up and things have been different every day, so I really don't know what to expect. I'll have about 12 rods rigged – everything from a dropshot to a flipping stick and everything in-between. I guess I'll just go fishing.

The lower end of the lake's pretty clear, and so is the Elk River. But the rest has been chocolate milk. It's cleared to where you can see 6 to 8 inches in the dirtiest areas, but there's some areas where you can see 2 or 3 feet.

The clouds and clearing water definitely won't help the shallow bite, so I think it'll probably be won deep again like last year. I'm figuring I need about 12 to 12 1/2 pounds a day to make the Top 12 cut.
